Children First Family Mediation (CFFM)

CFFM is a children’s charity that stands at the forefront of Greater Manchester’s dedicated not-for-profit family mediation services. We have a rich history of helping over 8000 families during difficult times on their journey towards resolution.

Our committed team of mediators boasts an extensive range of experience, with many having dedicated themselves to this work for more than two decades.

Every member of our team is fully accredited with the Family Mediation Council, with most trained to include children in the mediation process. This ensures children have a voice without shouldering the burden of their parents’ issues.

Helping our Communities

We help all separating families, same sex couples, grandparents, or relatives in conflict from a multitude of different communities concerning children and finances.

We work to help families reach agreement on all matters linked to their separation:

  • How the care of the children can be shared, and children have a great relationship with both parents.

  • Resolving financial matters in a fair, non-judgemental, cost-effective way such as the family home, pensions, assets, and any liabilities.

Mediation helps people to:

  • Improve communication

  • Focus on the future when in conflict

  • Forge mutual agreements and arrangements

  • Focus on the children’s needs

  • Avoid stressful and costly court proceedings

Key Principles of Mediation:

  • Confidential service recognising that each family is unique

  • Inclusive and open to all

  • Impartial

  • Voluntary

  • People in control of decisions about their future rather than courts or others deciding for them.

We can see people online by video link (Zoom, Teams, etc) or face to face including in central Manchester.

Mediation really is cost effective, as all issues can be dealt with in this process rather than going to court which can be very expensive and emotionally draining.

Did you know, mediation can be free?

“I initially rejected mediation as I have young children and work so could not see how I could fit it in. Doing it online in an hour’s gap when my youngest was at nursery made it so much easier and we sorted everything  in two sessions.
I also felt less pressurised than if we had gone to court.”
