 Job Title – Board of Director for Proud 2 b Parents

 Proud 2 b Parents is a service for LGBT parents to be, LGBT parents and their children. We deliver various engagement sessions throughout year. This includes monthly get together, fun days and promotional events. We are currently extending our service to meet the needs of more LGBT parents and their children. 

 Outline of post

 Are you interested in supporting the development of Proud 2 b Parents? Do you feel you could benefit the service with your own personal/ professional experience and views?
Then Proud 2 b Parents would be interested in hearing from you. We are currently looking to recruit members to our board of directors. This board help to steer the direction of Proud 2 b Parents, plan up and coming activities, whilst supporting the service coordinator in their role. You will encourage the development of the service through fresh ideas and experience.

You will have a passion for LGBT equality and knowledge of the issues and experiences LGBT parents and their children face.

 Main duties and responsibilities

  •  Attend 4 directors meetings throughout the year.
  • Support the service coordinator at events and stalls when necessary. A months notice will always be given. This is voluntary
  • Answer emails when necessary within a 48 hour period.
  • Share advice, support, experience and opinions on given topics to encourage the development of the Proud 2 b Parent service 

 Particular skills needed for post

  • Experience of working with LGBT related services.
  • Experience in regards to the different routes to parenthood, i.e. adoption/fostering services, Artificial insemination, co-parenting, surrogacy, previous relationship etc.  Either professionally or personally 
  • Experience of LGBT parents either professionally or personally
  • Experience of working with children
  • Good communication skills.
  • New and fresh ideas.
  • Enjoy working as part of a team.

The Service Coordinator has overall responsibility for service management and delivery, including the implementation of the conditions that comes from it being a Community Interest Company.  Their role also includes

  • Continuation of the Proud 2 b parents monthly meetings
  • Developing Proud 2 b Parents into an organisation and develop resources
  • Address lack of visibility and awareness of LGBT parents and their children
  • Address the lack of resources and services by providing information and support
  • Build confidence in parents and support behaviour management, building positive relationships
  • Address isolation with the LGBT parent community
  • Develop third sector links
  • Support children and young people through targeted engagement and intervention projects and recognise attachment issues
  • Increase understanding around LGBT parents through training and resources
  • Raising aspirations of parents and reducing isolation
